Essay on Value of Time in English

By | May 12, 2019

“Time and tide wait for none”.

Our lives are measured with time. All our actions from cradle to grave are governed by time. Man can ruminate on the past, lives in the Present, and can plunge into the future. The course of life is determined by time. Time has great value. Moments once lost, can not return again. Time is like a continuous stream. Time tells us:

‘As you sow, so will your reap’.

Every single moment in life is important. ‘Take care of the minutes and the hours shall take care of themselves’ is a wise saying. What one can do today, it should not be postponed for tomorrow: Procrastination is a thief of time. Punctuality means doing a thing at the proper moment. It is prince of virtues. We, as a nation, do not make proper use of time. Wastage of time is a great national loss.

Time brings changes. Change is a fundamental law of life. The change may be for good or for bad. Idleness and lethargy are waste of time. Life is short therefore, we must make the best use of time and shun ease and comfort. Those who do not act at proper moment, remain behind in the race of life. Early to bed and early to rise, makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise. It gives a good start to day’s work. [the_ad id=”17141″]

Time is the preserver of the past heritage. Sense of common past binds the community together. We are proud of the achievements of our ancestors. Traditions are rooted in time. They are part of ones culture. Artifices, behavior patterns and belief system (Religion) are three elements of culture. All free nations love their culture.

History and biography are products of the time. Man is great not by what he is, but by what he does. History tells us what man has done. History is the record man’s achievements and past events. The biography records the of lives of great men. ‘Lives of great men all remind us that we can also make our lives sublime.’ Knowledge of history makes us wise.

In spite of knowing the great value of time, we as a nation, attach little importance to time. We have forgotten what great sacrifices had been made by our ancestors for the sake of freedom. Constant vigilance is a piece of liberty. Punctuality has gone to the winds. People are late in offices and do not do their duties seriously and honestly. It is sheer waste of time. Students are generally unpunctual. Nobody cares for time in attending marriage parties and other functions. The phrase “Pakistani time’ has become proverbial. It is rather shameful. Most of us kill time or waste it in useless pursuits. We are retarded people.

If we want to make real progress and to earn a respectable place in the amity of nations, we must learn value of time. It is a call of the time.
